Devotions

One day a teacher of the Law asked Jesus, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” (Mark 12:28). Jesus answered that the greatest commandment was: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (v. 30). But then He added a second, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (v. 31). The reason Jesus gave two commands, not just one, is that they go together. You cannot really love God without loving your neighbor and vice versa.

A Conversation with April's Devotional Author

From the Editor

Hello friends,

Have you ever tried to read through the Bible in a year? If you’re like me, you might have slowed down when you encountered the Old Testament book of Leviticus. What do these chapters filled with details of sacrifices have to do with us today?

Take courage! Dr. Ryan Cook is our helpful guide for The Heart of Worship: A Study of Leviticus. Why did we choose this title? Because when we gain a better understanding of God’s holiness and our own sinfulness, we can’t help but fall to our knees in worship. And, this month of Easter is the perfect time to deepen our understanding of Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice.

Did you know we’re on YouTube? Each month, I enjoy sitting down for a conversation with our devotional authors. Take a moment to hear from Dr. Ryan Cook as he explains what you can expect to take away from this study. It’s ready to view on our YouTube channel. (And, new for April, we’ll have two videos for you! A second video with a deeper dive will post mid-month.)

Finally, all of us at Today in the Word join you in celebrating Resurrection Day! The Lord is risen indeed! Let’s open God’s Word together.
